Final: Red Sox 2, Yankees 9 - Bello allows four runs, Red Sox struggle at plate

The Boston Red Sox lose the second game of their doubleheader against the New York Yankees 9-2.

Facing off against Max Fried, the Red Sox struggled to put up runs on the board. On the pitching side, Brayan Bello picked up the loss in his bulk relief appearance, allowing four earned runs on five hits.

The Red Sox started the scoring in the third inning with a solo home run from Nick Sogard, but the Yankees followed up with three runs of their own. Bello allowed four consecutive hitters to reach base, resulted in RBI's from Ben Rice, Jazz Chisholm and Luis Garcia Jr.

New York added an additional run in the sixth inning with a Spencer Jones sac fly RBI, and Bello's night on the mound finished after 4.1 innings. Raymond Burgos pitched the remainder of the game to reverse Boston's bullpen arms. 

The Red Sox regained their offense in the eighth. Wilyer Abreu lead off the inning with a double to right field, and Willson Contreras followed with a triple misplayed by Jones. Despite the early offense, Boston stranded Conteras at third to keep the game 4-2.

In Burgos' second inning, the Yankees took advantage of defensive miscues and scored five runs. Abreu and Sogard miscommunicated with each other in right field, resulting in a lead off single by Cody Bellinger. New York then recorded five singles in six at-bats to put the game out of reach. Brendan Beck retired the side in the ninth inning to secure the victory for New York. 

The Yankees failed to record an extra base hit, but they doubled the Red Sox in hits with 13. The Red Sox also left more runners on base with seven.

Boston will plays its final game of the series against the Yankees tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. with Ranger Suarez on the mound.
