FINAL: Rangers 5, Bruins 2 - Fox's goal 40 seconds after Bruins tie game costs them

The Bruins costly mistakes cost them tonight as they fall to the New York Rangers by a score of 5-2. After tying the game at two thanks to a Justin Brazeau goal early in the third period, Adam Fox scored :40 later to give New York the go-ahead goal.

 The Bruins came out in the first period with a lot of energy. However, come the second and third period, Boston lost focus and failed to play a full 60 minutes. Once again, the Bruins allowed the Rangers to take the energy right out of them 40 seconds later. That has been a constant theme this season and there was a sense of "here we go again" in the arena. Another problem for the Bruins was that hey had only 12 shots on goal in the second and third period which obviously won't get it done. 

I will say that give credit where credit is due to Jonathon Quick, who was amazing in net for the Rangers finishing with 26 saves. Quick has been a great backup goaltender for New York this year and he showed that he still has it tonight. Artemi Panarin showed off his talent tonight finishing with a hat trick and now has 41 goals on the season. The Rangers out hustled Boston and won more board battles and controlled the zone time as the game went on. 

The Bruins will be back in action when they will be in Philadelphia on Saturday for a matinee matchup at 1 p.m. to face the Flyers.

The Bruins finish up a four-game home stand tonight as they welcome the New York Rangers to TD Garden in an Original Six matchup at 7 p.m. Boston will roll out the same lines except for Jeremy Swayman getting the start in net. Pat Maroon took the ice at TD Garden this morning for the first time since being acquired from Minnesota at the trade deadline. Jim Montgomery told reporters that Maroon is still wee-to-week, but they have started talking about his role and expectations on the team. 

Boston faces a hot Rangers squad that has won five of their last seven games. "I’m excited about this game…the Rangers are one of the elite teams in this league so tonight is an opportunity to see where we match up against them," Jim Montgomery said. 

Artemi Panarin paces New York with 38 goals, 56 assists and 94 points on the season. The Rangers are 21-11-4 good for 36 points this season, which ranks tied for second for the most road wins.
