BSJ Live Coverage: Patriots, NFL begin process of getting of getting down to 53 players by 4 p.m. Tuesday
All NFL teams have to be down to their initial 53-man roster by 4 p.m. Tuesday, and then waiver claims can be made.
One monkey wrench in this:
Allowing teams to elevate the third QB each week would have amounted to a sort of legal stashing, which the union doesn't want.

And here come the cuts. Reporting that DL Sam Roberts, LB Steele Chambers, WR Kawaan Baker and CB Azizi Hearn have all been informed of their release. Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald was first to report that La'Michael Pettway and LS Tucker Addington have been cut.
3:03 PM: RB DeShaun Fenwick has been released (for a second time).
Per Kyed, William Bradley-King has been waived.
4:10 PM: Pats announced 14 cuts including a half dozen we didn't have yet: DT Josiah Bronson, T Zuri Henry, DE Christian McCarroll, C Charles Turner, CB Mikey Victor, and TE Jacob Warren.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 27TH
9:30 Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports (and I can confirm) that Kendrick Bourne will begin the season on the PUP list. That means he's not eligible to play for the first four weeks of the regular season. Mark Daniels of MassLive also reports Cole Strange will also be on the PUP. No surprise. He's still recovering from the late season knee injury.
10:30 AM: Kyed reports S Joshuah Bledsoe, DT Armon Watts (IR), and RB Terrell Jennings are all out. Tom Pelissero adds TE Mitchell Wilcox is gonzo as well.
11:30 AM: Bailey Zappe and RB Kevin Harris have been cut.
12:47 PM: Calvin Anderson has been placed on IR and K Chad Ryland have been released.
1:26 LB Jotham Russell, S A.J. Thomas, WR David Wallis, WR Matt Landers, DE Kobe Jones and OL Liam Fornadel have been given their walking papers. Expect Wallis to find his way to the practice squad. Fornadel is also an option. Russell will likely be there because he's part of the international pathway program.
2:11 PM: T Kellen Diesch has been released.
3:30 PM CB Shaun Wade (Kyed) and OL Atonio Mafi have been released.
Final set of transactions is in. LB Joe Giles-Harris has been cut, DT Christian Barmore is on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List (designated to return) and S Marte Mapu on IR (designated to return).
