FINAL: Patriots in-stadium scrimmage - Vrabel gives an update taken at Gillette Stadium (Patriots)

(Adam Richins for BSJ)

FOXBOROUGH — Going to bring you some highlights from tonight, no play-by-play or anything. Just some insight and thoughts as we progress.

We heard from Mike Vrabel to start off the night:

 - Announced the players who would be out:

WR Mack Hollins
CB Christian Gonzalez
CB Carlton Davis
DL Keion White
OL Vederian Lowe (PUP)
C Garrett Bradbury
RB Antonio Gibson
LB Jahlani Tavai
DL Joshua Farmer
OL Sidy Sow

- Blue team head coach/DC is Zak Kuhr, Josh McDaniels is the OC. Thomas Brown is the HC/OC of the white team with DC Terrence Williams.

Blue captains: Drake Maye, Christian Ellis, Jaylinn Hawkins. White captains: Hunter Henry, Jabrill Peppers, and Brendan Schooler. They were selected by the head coaches.

There was a draft and a coin flip.

Only Vrabel and John Streicher (in charge of scoring decisions) are unbiased observers. Everyone else is trying to win.

There will be officials for the first time in camp, but Vrabel may extend some drives. He might create some situations.

Vrabel has done this in the past.

"Players like it," he said. "We'll see some trick plays, so we'll see what works, and if we can carry through the season and decide we're throwing up like maybe two trick plays each, that they'll come up with that we haven't seen."

 - Vrabel wouldn't comment on players asking for trades around the league.

 - Vrabel said that Jared Wilson has earned his top left guard opportunities and that will continue. Says nothing is set in stone right now.

 - I asked Vrabel why he has spent most of his time with the offense, which he said he did in Tennessee as well.

"I think it's probably a way for me to continue to learn this system so that I can coach it and be an asset, I think, and try to help just as we install ... try to give a defensive perspective to what we're doing offensively. And I try to get around as much as possible. I think that group period just gives me a chance to kind of see how things are running.

"But that's kind of what I've done. I would say in the past, I think that's probably consistent already, trying to get me everywhere, see every position, or talk to every position that may change."

 - Vrabel seems fine with having two rookies on the left side of the line with Campbell and Wilson.

"They've earned the right to be out there," he said. "I'm excited where their growth is and when we get them out there, at the same time, continue to grow and develop their connection off the field. That will lead to very positive very positive results."

 - Spoke positively about C Ben Brown and OLB Truman Jones.
