FINAL: Oilers 2 , Bruins 1 (OT) - Bruins give up tying goal with 1:20 left and fall in OT

  I guess it was too good to be true as the Bruins blow another lead late and fall 2-1 to Edmonton in overtime. I thought the game throughout was played pretty even with good defense and goaltending by both sides. Pavel Zacha scored in the third period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead which made it seem like that would have been the difference in the game.

 Danton Heinen had a great chance for an empty net goal to put the game away but hit the post. With the Edmonton goal empty, Boston lost a face-off and Leon Draisaitl scored as the puck went off Linus Ullmark's back and in. 

That goal sucked all the energy out of TD Garden and to make things worse, Draisaitl scored again in overtime to hand the Bruins a dreadful overtime loss. 

I don't believe that Ullmark deserves the blame in this loss though because he made save after save throughout the game and kept Boston in the game. The bigger criticism is the fact that the Bruins couldn't win the face-off late in the third period and that Heinen hit the post on an easy empty net opportunity to seal the win. It also seemed noticeable that all the action changed in favor of the Oilers in the overtime period which has been a constant issue for Boston this season. Boston now owns the most goals allowed this season on five versus six play in the NHL (nine). The only chance the Bruins have at this point is to make a move by the trade deadline on Friday. 

The Bruins will be back in action on Thursday night when they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to TD Garden at 7 p.m.

The Bruins welcome in the Edmonton Oilers to TD Garden on a back-to-back at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. Boston looks to build off a convincing 4-1 win on Monday night north of the border in Toronto versus the Maple Leafs. James Van Riemsdyk will be suiting up for his 1,000 NHL career game tonight. It is being reported from Chris Johnston of The Athletic that Vancouver is pursuing Jake Guentzel from the Penguins which would land Elias Lindholm in Boston. Nothing is close at the moment and we will have more information when it becomes available. 

The Bruins face an Edmonton team that begins a four-game road trip in Boston. The Oilers enter on a four-game winning streak, most recently on Sunday by a score of 6-1 over Pittsburgh. The Bruins defeated the Oilers last time they met by a score of 6-5 in overtime on February 21st. Edmonton has been outscoring their opponents 15-6 in their last four games. Zach Hyman leads the Oilers in goals (42) and Connor McDavid leads in points (97). The Bruins will have to be careful with taking penalties tonight as Edmonton owns the fourth best power play in the NHL at 28.7%.
