Preview: Through their first two games, the Boston Celtics are 1-1. They played two of the (projected) two best teams in the Eastern Conference, losing to the Detroit Pistons, then taking down the New York Knicks.
Now, they are set to welcome the Chicago Bulls to TD Garden. The Bulls are 1-2 so far this season and have been struggling mightily from behind the 3-point line.
In their first three games, the Bulls have shot just 26.2% from deep range. They take the fourth-most in the league (41.3 per game), but that hasn't been going super well just yet.
Rookie Caleb Wilson has been leading the team in scoring thus far, putting up 22.3 points per contest. He's also been a beast on defense, averaging 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
Alongside Wilson has been Norman Powell, whom the Bulls signed in free agency this summer. Matas Buzelis and Jalen Smith have also been playing big minutes.
Last season: The Celtics went 2-1 against the Bulls last year, though that team looked a lot different than the one Chicago is sporting now. Boston's one loss came at the hands of a Kevin Huerter game-winner.
Huerter isn't on the team anymore. In fact, the Celtics have already played against him this season (in Detroit). The rest of the team looks completely different, too.
Coby White is on the Charlotte Hornets. Nikola Vucevic is on the Orlando Magic (after a stop in Boston). Ayo Dosunmu is on the Minnesota Timberwolves. All three of those guys were on the team in the Bulls' one win over the Celtics last season.
Summer changes: White, Vucevic, and Dosunmu were all traded by the end of last season. Then, this summer, the Bulls made even more changes to the roster.
They selected Wilson with the No. 4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Powell joined the Bulls in free agency, and they also made a trade for Nicolas Claxton, though he's been injured to begin the campaign. Buddy Hield is in town now, too.
One fun play: This could be a crucial part of the Celtics' offense this year. If Jayson Tatum and Mitchell Robinson can develop great pick-and-roll chemistry, it would give Boston a great advantage.
Look at the way the Knicks guard Tatum. They don't want to give him any space, so Karl-Anthony Towns comes all the way up to the 3-point line to slow him down. That leaves Robinson plenty of room to roll.
But what's even better is that, since Towns stepped up to guard Tatum, he wasn't in the paint to rebound. So, even though OG Anunoby stopped Robinson at the rim, he was able to corral the offensive rebound (and put-back) with ease.
