WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Robert Williams is now out. He was originally questionable. It turns out that the swelling in his knee is the result of a bone bruise suffered in a Game 3 collision with Giannis Antetokounmpo, and not the meniscus surgery.
“He got his knee scanned, and everything structurally is good. Looks fine,” Ime Udoka said at shootaround. “Swelling went down but he still has some soreness and pain. Revealed that he has a small bone bruise from a collision he took in Game 3. So structurally he’s fine from the surgery, it’s just that's where the swelling and the soreness came from.”
Udoka says the team won't put Williams out there unless he's 100%.
"(He's) disappointed, as we all are, But we’re looking out for his health first and foremost. The pain is still there."
- Khris Middleton remains out with the left MCL sprain.
- Milwaukee is favored by 1.5
THREE THINGS TO WATCH FOR
1. Who wins the first quarter: Boston can’t spend much time playing from behind in this game. This isn’t like the rest of the series. An elimination game in Milwaukee with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the floor is dangerous, dangerous territory. The Celtics can’t be messing around with this game and think they're going to figure it out later. This has to be a collective, wire-to-wire job tonight.
2. Poise under pressure: The Celtics didn’t have it in Game 5, and they’ve lacked it a lot in this series. The Celtics have been the better team for enough of this series to have probably won it by now, yet their lack of poise and finishing ability has put them behind 3-2.
This game is about staying calm in the face of adversity and doing the things you’re supposed to do, even when the Bucks are doing everything and anything to stop you. It’s about staying calm and not trying to do everything alone. Keeping their composure will win them this game.
3. Jayson Tatum’s star moment: Well, Jayson, this is what you signed up for, right?
Look at what Luka Doncic was able to do in an elimination game for Dallas. I often compare Doncic and Tatum, and how Doncic has the natural ability to do a lot of what Tatum has worked to grow into as a player.
Well, now it’s Tatum’s turn to show what he’s got. The best of the best don’t let their team lose in these situations. This is Tatum vs. Antetokounmpo.
You want to be in the MVP conversation, Jayson? This is where you do it.
A LITTLE MORE
I’m joined by Tom Westerholm to discuss a couple of the more infuriating plays of Game 5 and look at what went wrong there, and also give a detailed breakdown of what I think was supposed to happen in the Celtics final play.
