Final: Cavs 114, Celtics 113 (OT) - Brown misses buzzer beater
Game 7: Celtics (-2) vs. Cavaliers, 7:30 p.m., Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, ESPN
Injuries: Boston - Danilo Gallinari, Robert Williams. Cleveland: Ricky Rubio (knee), Raul Neto (doubtful, ankle), Darius Garland (questionable, eye), Dylan Windler (questionable, ankle)
Cavs probable starters: Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Dean Wade, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen
Refs: Rodney Mott (#71), Jacyn Goble (#68), Brandon Adair (#67)
A little something about the game: Boston is looking for revenge after the Cavs beat Boston in overtime last week. Maybe redemption is the better R-word for what the Celtics are looking for because they had that game won were it not for a few lapses that were 100% their own fault. According to Shams Charania, Garland will play tonight, which adds another threat to contend with. If Boston is lucky, Garland’s return will throw off Mitchell’s game.
How Boston wins: The Celtics were able to match Cleveland’s size effectively the first time around. If they can do so again and limit the dribble penetration better, they should be able to prevent a lot of the scenarios that put them in defensive trouble. Also, you can bet that Cleveland is going to crash the boards again, so Boston has to be ready for that.
How Cleveland wins: Garland and Mitchell blowing by the first defender will completely break down the Boston defense. If they can get past that first line and force help, then all sorts of passes will open up to get guys like Mobley and Allen going. Defensively, funneling Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown into the bigs more than last time will be beneficial.
Things I’m looking for:
- Boxing out: I don’t care that I’ve said this a lot already. I’ll say it a lot more. This team needs to get into the habit of turning and looking for an opponent to box out instead of just watching the ball after it’s shot.
- Malcolm Brogdon/Derrick White minutes: They were more limited in the last game because of Cleveland’s size. I think there is a better way to use these guys, at least when the size is off the floor. Let’s see what lessons Joe Mazzulla has learned.
Follow along below or in the comments during the game, chime in, and let’s have fun.
