Game 50: Celtics (-8.5) vs. New York Knicks, 7:30 p.m., TD Garden, TNT

Injuries:

Boston: OUT- Danilo Gallinari, Marcus Smart (ankle)

New York: OUT- Mitchell Robinson (thumb), Evan Fournier (personal reasons)

Knicks probable starters: Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, Quentin Grimes, Jericho Sims

Refs: Ben Taylor (#46), Brian Forte (#45), Dedric Taylor (#21)

Last time they played: Celtics 133, Knicks 118, November 5- The Celtics opened the game scoring their first 15 points on 3-pointers and they just kept firing all night long. They ended up taking 51 and making 27, a new team record for made 3s. They needed all of them to overcome the parade to the rim they allowed the Knicks, who finished the game with 64 points in the paint.

A little something about this game: The Knicks just broke a four-game losing streak with a win over Cleveland. Randle had 36 points and 13 rebounds in that game, hitting 8 3-pointers along the way. Randle is on a tear, averaging 26.2 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists over his last 10 games.

How the Celtics win: The Celtics have to hold the Knicks to one shot. They’ll miss because they're a bottom-half of the NBA halfcourt team, but they're #1 in points per miss -- which means they clean up on the offensive glass. Stop that and the Celtics can get out and run.

Offensively, they should be attacking the rim with Robinson sidelined. I know they set a team record for made 3-pointers made against these Knicks, but it feels like to play tonight is to drive, drive, drive.

How the Knicks win: Randle will have to carry a lot of the load. If he gets the Celtics in foul trouble early on, it’ll be a tough night for Boston. They’ll also need Brunson and one guy off the bench to contribute if they're going to take this.

Things I’m looking for:

- Limiting Randle: “You gotta defend without fouling. He does a great job of seeking contact,” Joe Mazzulla said. “Got to be physical with him, have to have an early point of contact … right now he's scoring the ball in all three levels really well, and so that'd be very diligent in what we're trying to take away and take that away.”

Randle gets to the line a little more in wins and passes a lot more in losses. If his lane to the basket is cut off and he’s not getting trips to the line, he’ll shrink.

- A (mostly) healthy lineup: After a couple of very shorthanded games, it’ll be good to see everyone (except Smart) back in the lineup.

- Bench battle: Boston’s bench has the 5th-best net rating in the NBA. New York’s is 7th. Boston is missing one starter, New York is missing two. With Malcolm Brogdon back, can the Celtics second unit change the game.
