Final: Bruins 2, Red Wings 1 - Marchand scores game-winning goal in the 3rd period as Bruins win 2nd consecutive game taken at BSJ Headquarters (Bruins)

The Bruins won their second game of the Joe Sacco-era defeating the Detroit Red Wings 2-1. Just like in their game against Utah, strong defense gave Boston a victory as they look to bounce back early in the season.

Midway into the first period, Boston was the first team to land on the power play. With seconds left into their attempt,Tyler Johnson fired a puck at Red Wings' goalie Cam Talbot. In front of the net, Justin Brazeau made contact with the puck, and the Bruins scored their first goal of the game.

The Red Wings would eventually tie the game late into the period. Transitioning into the offensive zone, Vladimir Tarasenko sent a backhand pass to Lucas Raymond in the slot. With no Bruin in his way, Raymond fired a one-timer goal putting the Red Wings on the board.

Neither Detroit or Boston scored in the second period. Both teams had chances on the man-advantage, but Talbot along with Jeremy Swayman kept their teams in the game.

Boston would turn their offense up in the final period of the game. They spent the majority of the period in the offensive zone and fired the most amount of shots on net compared to any other period. It seemed like the Bruins couldn't get any puck luck with the chances they had. However, Brad Marchand ended up breaking the tie sniping a top-right corner goal while curling to the net on the face-off dot.

The Bruins were able to shut the door defensively the rest of the period. With less than two minutes in the game, the Red Wings went on a 6-on4 power play attempt. However, Boston still performed great on the power play which gave them the win.

In the past two games, Boston has played great defense in front of both of their goaltenders. Despite not scoring a lot of goals, it is good to see Boston firing shots on net and maintaining pressure within the offensive zone. It wasn't the prettiest win, but the Bruins are showing signs of life after firing Jim Montgomery during this week.

The Bruins will play their next game in Boston facing off against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m.

PREGAME NOTES

The Bruins visit the Red Wings tonight in the first of three games between these teams this season and the first of two Bos- ton visits to Little Caesars Arena this season.

The Bruins snapped an 0-2-1 winless stretch with a 1-0 win vs. Utah on Nov. 21. That followed a 7-2 setback in Dallas in Nov. 14, a 3-2/OT setback vs. St. Louis on Nov. 16 and a 5-1 loss to Columbus on Nov. 18.

On Thursday, the Bruins make a roster move sending down Georgii Merkulov to Providence and promoting Marc McLaughlin to the active roster. McLaughlin, 25, has five goals and five assists in 10 games for Providence this season
