Final: Kraken 5, Bruins 1 - Bruins fall to Seattle losing their second game of road trip

The Bruins have lost their second game of their west coast road trip falling to the Seattle Kraken 5-1. After losing to the Jets 8-1 on Tuesday, Boston yet again played a disappointing brand of hockey.

It was a rough start to the game for Boston. 12 seconds into the first period, David Pastrnak received a double-minor penalty for high-sticking a Kraken defenseman inside the offensive zone. Seconds into Seattle's power play attempt, Oliver Bjorkstrand scored putting Boston at an early 1-0 deficit.

A few minutes after Seattle's first goal, Tyler Johnson would then get called for a tripping penalty trying to retrieve the puck int the offensive zone. The Bruins managed to kill Johnson's penalty, but Jaden Schwartz scored a backhand goal on the same shift giving Seattle an early 2-0 lead.

Boston showed signs of life despite the slow start. Midway into the second period, Boston pressured Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer in front of the net. With the puck nearly moving over the goal line, Brandon Montour stopped the puck from entering the net which gave the Bruins a penalty shot opportunity. Brad Marchand was selected for the penalty shot and the captain backhanded a shot past Grubauer putting Boston behind by a goal.

However, Boston wasn't able to tie up the game falling flat in the final period. As Boston struggled to put offensive pressure on Grubauer, Seattle scored two even strength goals and an empty net goal sealing the victory for the Kraken.

Yet again, the same mistakes the Bruins have repeatedly made this season have resulted in another frustrating loss. The start of the game was awful, and Boston continues to show a lack of discipline when it comes to penalties. 

Surprisingly, Boston outshot Seattle by 12 shots in this game. It goes to show that the Bruins haven't been able to produce effective shots that have really challenged the goaltenders they have faced. Grubauer played a great game today, but Seattle's defense helped Grubauer face shots from outside the slot preventing Boston from getting shots from within the face-off circle. This is another game Bruins fans are not going to be happy with.

The Bruins will continue their road trip facing off against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Puck drop with be at 10 p.m.

PREGAME NOTES

The Bruins travel to Seattle facing off against the Kraken for the second and final time this season. 

Boston's 4-game losing streak was broken on Tuesday as the Bruins were defeated by the Winnipeg Jets 8-1. 

The Bruins and Jets got aggressive with three third-period fights after the game was out of reach. David Gustafsson and Trent Frederic faced battle close to center ice as the Jets led 6-1. Prior to Tuesday, Gustafsson had never been in an NHL fight, and this one ended quickly. The 24-year-old Swede quickly struck the ice after Frederic delivered a straight right hand. The tone of the following few minutes was set by the Jets' dislike of Frederic, an accomplished fighter, getting into a brawl with Gustafsson.
