Final: Devils 5, Bruins 1 - Bruins allow 5 consecutive goals in disappointing loss against Devils

The Bruins lose to the New Jersey Devils 5-1 in a disappointing performance. After a strong first period for Boston, the Bruins went flat the rest of the way en route to a blowout loss.

Facing one of the best teams in the metropolitan, Boston started the game with a lot of momentum on their side. The Bruins were able to the puck on their stick the majority of the first period, and it resulted in the first goal of the game from Morgan Geekie. With the Devils breaking the puck out of their zone, Pavel Zacha intercepted a breakout pass which lead to Geekie's goal in front of the net.

After taking the lead, the Bruins couldn't keep their strong play the remainder of the game as the Devils went on to score five consecutive goals. In the second period alone, New Jersey scored four goals as Boston struggled to stay out of the box and defend on the penalty kill. 

Overall, Boston recorded seven penalties in this game, and the New Jersey took advantage scoring two power play goals. Weak defense and goaltending from Boston lead to Joe Sacco deciding to replace starting goalie Jeremy Swayman with Joonas Korpisalo. Compared to their first period, the Bruins looked like a completely different team the rest of the game, resulting in an embarrassing loss to one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

Tomorrow, the Bruins head back to Boston facing off against the Senators at TD Garden. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

The Bruins travel to New Jersey to take on the Devils for the first of three games against their opponent this season.

The Bruins have placed Mark Kastelic on the IR. Kastelic, who missed two games last week in concussion protocol, returned on Saturday against Ottawa and was active for Monday’s game against San Jose.

Boston called up Patrick Brown and Max Jones from the AHL before Wednesday’s game in New Jersey.Brown, Providence’s 32-year-old captain has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 37 games. He’s played one game in Boston this season. He has 10 goals and 15 assists in 150 career NHL games. Max Jones, who started the season in Boston, has eight goals and three assists in 26 games in Providence, The 6-foot-3, 222-pound 26-year-old played in four games. Jones has 31 goals and 31 assists in 262 career NHL games, mostly with Anaheim. (MassLive)
