FOXBOROUGH β Practice No. 19 is in the books; let's run down all you need to know, including stats, 1-on-1s, lineup adjustments and observations from the joint practice with the Eagles:
FOUR THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Starting defense, Marcus Jones star early, Eagles get some revenge late: After watching the offense yesterday, I concentrated on the Patriots' defense today (outside of NE offensive line pass rush 1-on-1s), and the unit showed well early despite not having starting S Craig Woodson (Dell Pettus and John Saunders rotated), and LB Christian Ellis (limited) splitting time with KJ Britt, and cornerbacks Charles Woods, Kindle Vildor and Marcellas Dial rotating. (Giardi will be following with an offensive breakdown)
The run defense seemed to be a lot better, as the Patriots had more stuffs than big runs allowed, at least with the starting defense, which is the focus
Session 1, red zone
Stuff
Interception by Marcus Jones/Milton Williams sack
Incomplete to WR Darius Cooper (Dial) but he was open
Easy touchdown allowed to Dallas Goedert; Spillane and Ellis were in the vicinity with no safety help
Session 2, red zone
Barkley stuffed by unblocked Jacas on read option
Jalen Hurts draw that was wide open for about 15 yards
Dontayvion Wicks drop against Carlton Davis
Elijah Ponder sack
Session 3, goal-to-go
Barkley up the middle for 6
Hurt draw for 3
Ponder pass breakup as Kevin Byard is free runner on blitz
Hurts touchdown to Wicks
Session 4, goal-to-go
Hurts read option, KJ Britt stuff (TFL)
Shipley stuffed
Hurts intercepted by Marcus Jones, cutting underneath Wicks
Jacas pass breakup with all-out blitz
Session 5, 35-yard line
Barkley for 6
Hurts complete to Wicks, read option for 8
Barkley for 5
Cory Durden sack
Hurts scramble (pressure)
Tank Bigsby big run down left sideline, but holding on Eagles
Hurts complete 15 yards to TE Johnny Mundt against Britt
Totals
Hurts was 4 of 10, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 2 sacks, 2 drops
Run stuffs: 4
Plus runs: 5
Pressure/sacks: 3
TDs: 2
INTs: 2
PBUs: 2
Big pass: 1
I'd say it was pretty even but a slight edge to the Patriots.
Eagles starters cash in team red zone: Both teams congregated on the same field to end practice, with a timed situation - ball on the 25, 45 seconds remaining, 1 time out each, and they needed to go for two.
Patriots first-team offense was intercepted on the first play when Drake Maye forced a slant to A.J. Brown in tight coverage with Riq Woolen. The ball went up in the air and was intercepted by Jalyx Hunt (who was probably the Eagles' MVP of the practices).
