Everything you need to know from the Patriots’ win over the Jets in quickie form, with BSJ insight and analysis:
HEADLINES
Patriots get the job done: In typical Thursday Night fashion, this was far from a pretty game but it didn't matter. The Jets took the ball and scored on the opening possession (again - sixth time in 11 games), but the Patriots answered back. The defense didn't allow a first down the rest of the first half against a truly pathetic Jets offense and QB Justin Fields, who completed just 57.7% of his passes for 116 yards — and even fumbled the ball to the Patriots at the 10-yard line on about the third low shotgun snap of the game. The only thing Fields could do was run (67 yards).
With the offensive line doing a good job protecting Drake Maye for much of the game, he pretty much picked the Jets apart for most of the game. He also got big contributions from Stefon Diggs, Hunter Henry and Mack Hollins in the pass game. TreVeyon Henderson did enough as the lead back and scored three touchdowns.
Milton Williams leaves with left ankle injury, returns (for a bit): The defensive tackle, who has been the defense's best player, got leg-whipped by a teammate in the first quarter, went to the blue tent and then the locker room. He did emerge and played a few snaps after that. But after halftime, he was only on the sideline in a jacket and didn't appear again.
Kraft praises McDaniels: During the 98.5 The SportsHub Pregame Show, Robert Kraft made an appearance with his wife, Dana, and he was asked about what it's been like to watch Drake Maye's development. His answer was in a direction Mike Vrabel has not been willing to go (and I'm sure won't be played on Felger & Mazz a million times or anything).
"It's been great," Kraft said. "I have to give a lot of credit to Josh McDaniels. Josh has learning curve experience in this area, having worked with Tommy and watching how he evolved. And Josh also has unique knowledge of many different offenses, and I think he understands Drake and how he operates, and adapting him into the culture of whomever we're playing the next week, and looking at their weaknesses and where we can hopefully exploit it. And they developed a great chemistry.
"And you know, Drake is unusual to me, anyhow, that he's very humble. He comes from a wonderful family. And you know, I love that he married his seventh-grade girlfriend. And, you know, he's not into glitz, he's into hard work and doing what has to be done. And that's a good New England culture and what our family and people in this region are about, and we like to win, in case you forgot."
TURNING POINT
This was just a fabulous, MVP-caliber stretch for Maye to put a stranglehold on this game.
1-10-NE 31 (11:16) (Shotgun) D.Maye pass deep middle to M.Hollins to NE 48 for 17 yards (J.Sherwood).
1-10-NE 48 (10:41) (Shotgun) T.Henderson right guard to 50 for 2 yards (Q.Williams).
2-8-50 (10:01) D.Maye pass deep right to S.Diggs to NYJ 29 for 21 yards (T.Adams)
1-10-NYJ 29 (9:16) (Shotgun) D.Maye pass short right to S.Diggs to NYJ 11 for 18 yards (J.Sherwood).
1-10-NYJ 11 (8:28) B.Brown reported in as eligible. T.Henderson left end to NYJ 6 for 5 yards (J.Tufele).
2-5-NYJ 6 (7:51) (Shotgun) D.Maye pass short left to T.Henderson for 6 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
SECOND GUESS
Didn't love the sequence before halftime. The sense of urgency was lacking. Patriots got the ball at their 46 with 1:14 left and three timeouts (after the Jets had 12 men on the field after a timeout). Patriots ran seven plays and only gained 32 yards. Patriots had the ball with 9 seconds left at the Jets' 28 with one timeout. Didn't take a shot. Just a 1-yard run. And then Andy Borregales missed the field goal from 45 yards.
FIVE UP
QB Drake Maye: He was largely sensational, especially on the move, completing over 70 percent of his passes and there were a few drops/knockaways mixed in there. The guy's heartbeat just doesn't rise at all.
RB TreVeyon Henderson: His final stat line isn't going to wow anyone (3.3 yards, long of 9) but he added 5 catches for 31 yards and scored three touchdowns. His second touchdown was what we've been waiting for. He finally showed great patience and then pounced. That's his game. It's coming.
WR Stefon Diggs: Had 9 catches for 105 yards on 11 targets, even though he had at least one drop. Was getting open all the time with some great releases.
LB Jack Gibbens: Was up there again with six tackles, including a great tackle for a loss when he stopped a screen for a loss.
S Dell Pettus: Didn't play a whole lot, but had two huge stops, including the game-clincher on fourth down.
TWO DOWN
WR Kyle Williams: Was 0 for 3 on targets, and that doesn't really do it justice. He wasn't close on any of them.
K Andy Borregales: Missed the field goal before halftime.
INJURIES
DT Milton Williams (left ankle): Returned to the game, but didn't play after halftime. He was ruled out in the fourth quarter.

TWO TAKES BEDARD WILL PROBABLY REGRET LATER
I really dislike Thursday night football. The product stinks because the players' bodies are not meant to play 60 minutes of physical football on Sunday, and then do it again four days later. They need more rest. It's totally unfair to ask these guys to do that. But at least they get away for three days on the weekend. That's the only upside.
On a related note, I take nothing from this game. I'm sure they'll be some complaining about the sloppiness of the offense, especially in the second half. But these games are just about survival and winning. You're not getting style points in Thursday Night Football. Patriots have won eight straight and get a little needed rest.
