FOXBOROUGH - Practice No. 7 of 2025 is in the books; let's run down all you need to know: all the stats, 3 up/down, 1-on-1s, and odds and ends:
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
____________________
UPDATE: The Patriots announced today the signing of TE Tyler Davis, TE Cole Fotheringham and C Alec Lindstrom. In addition, T Yasir Durant has been waived-injured and WR Demeer Blankumsee and RB Trayveon Williams have been released.
Davis, 28, originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick (206th overall) of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech. The 6-foot-5, 252-pounder, was released by Jacksonville at the end of training camp in 2021 and was signed by Indianapolis to the practice squad. Davis was signed by Green Bay off the Indianapolis practice squad on Sept. 28, 2021. Overall, he has played in 39 games with one start and has 8 receptions for 61 yards. Davis spent the last two seasons on the Green Bay practice squad.
Fotheringham, 27, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders on May 13, 2022 out of Utah. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder, spent his first two seasons (2022-23) on the Raiders practice squad before being elevated for two games late in the season. Fotheringham was released by Las Vegas at the end of the 2024 training camp and spent time during the year on the practice squads of both Houston and Las Vegas. Fotheringham was signed by Denver on May 12, 2025 but was released on June 5, 2025.
Not sure why they needed more TEs, but both are big boys and could be used as FB/TE hybrids. I will say that UDFA CJ Dippre has not made a big early impression.

Feels like Jared Wilson is your new starting left guard: For the second-straight day, the third-round pick took starter reps at left guard, and today it was all of them. But a lot more goes into declaring him the starting left guard, at least for now (injuries could change a lot of things).
After leaving Tuesday's practice late with an injury, center Garrett Bradbury did not practice today. The Patriots then had two choices: let Wilson take over at center, at least for now, or leave him at left guard. That the Patriots not only left him at left guard, but cemented his position, tells you two things: 1) Bradbury won't be out very long; and 2) Wilson is their guy at left guard.
That the Patriots left Wilson at left guard tells you a lot. Like I said yesterday, Wilson was already an NFL starter in my mind, and it seems like the Patriots agree just over a week into training camp.
The Patriots, theoretically when Bradbury returns, can start to build cohesion with the starting unit basically set: LT Will Campbell, Wilson, Bradbury, Mike Onwenu and Morgan Moses.
Feels like the end of the line for Cole Strange: On the other side of the coin with Bradbury's injury, the Patriots could have let Cole Strange ascend to the starting left guard spot, where he started camp, and moved Wilson to center. Not only did the Patriots not think that was wise, they moved Strange to center behind Ben Brown, who took over for Bradbury. The Patriots might be giving Strange a Hail Mary to stay on the roster with one last shot at center — where previously he flamed out — but it feels like this is the beginning of the end for him. Caeden Wallace is now the backup left guard.
"Big, strong, powerful kid, and just looking to put everybody in an opportunity for them to excel and a place to compete, which he's done," Vrabel said of Wallace. "I would say that he's been headed in the right direction these last couple days since we put pads on. I think he's gotten more comfortable. I think he's – they all have – everybody's going to make mistakes, but I think that there's been a lot of really positive plays and then continue to move forward."
Strange is now the de facto third center behind Bradbury (when he returns) and Brown. If Strange was still competing for Wallace for backup left guard, they likely would have left him there, mixed in Wilson at center, and allowed newly signed Alec Lindstrom (BC, two seasons with the Memphis Showboats of the UFL) to fend for himself.
Good day for Maye, Patriots offense: Seemed like the Patriots focused on drives, and down and distance today, and both quarterbacks had a productive day, going a combined 18 of 23 with a touchdown and three sacks. Drake Maye was 10 of 13, and might have been better had there been refs to call pass interference on DJ James, who grabbed the shoulder of Kyle Williams and didn't allow him to turn around for a well-placed back-shoulder throw from Maye on third and 5. Maye and Willliams did, however, hook up on the play of the day: a go route down the right sideline some 40 yards perfectly placed over James and before Kyle Dugger could get over (ugh). Maye's getting really good at taking the first open look to get drives going, which is a big thing in Josh McDaniels' offense.

ONE-ON-ONES

Decisive losses/wins
Will Campbell lost badly to fellow rookie Bradyn Swinson when Campbell missed his jam, and Swinson slipped quickly inside Campbell.
Truman Jones sped around Demontrey Jacobs pretty easily.
Keion White, lining up at RDT, embarrassed Tyrese Robinson by taking him to the ground.
Jones got Jacobs again with an inside spin move.
Good day from Layden Robinson, who always stands out in 1-on-1s, but struggles more in team situations.
Caeden Wallace had a good day. Cole Strange did not.
PASSING FROM GIARDI
2-on-2s in the low red zone.
The top two quarterbacks alternated reps. Several players have taken to tucking their jerseys up under their pads, so on a few occasions, I didn't get the number of the receiver or DB.
Maye:
- Complete to Diggs (Dugger).
- Complete to Douglas (Epps).
- Near interception by Hawkins (didn't see receiver's number).
- Complete to Baker on short post (Battle).
- Complete to Henderson in the right flat (Dial)
- Austin forces an incompletion on the throw to Baker. Got away with some grabbing.
- Wild miss by Maye.
- Complete to Douglas (over Dial).
- Woodson with a PBU.
Dobbs:
-Chism swims past Bolden for a catch.
- Bolden PBU on throw to Polk.
- Complete to wide-open Jiles (Schooler closest in blown coverage).
- Incomplete
- Complete to Chism in the right flat (Schooler).
- Complete to Polk in left flat (Minkins)
- Chism beats Jordan Polk to the corner.
- Webb with a PBU on slant to Polk.
- Dial with a PBU.
TOP PLAY
The Maye to Williams touchdown.
THREE UP
QB Drake Maye: Operated the McDaniels offense well today. Completed nice downfield passes to Hunter Henry, Demario Douglas, Austin Hooper in the seam (twice), Williams (TD), Stefon Diggs twice (wide open, one blitz beater).
Edge Truman Jones: Had two decisive wins in 1-on-1s as he's starting to show up in team as well.
LG Caeden Wallace: Went 2-0 in 1-on-1s and seems cemented as the backup, and Vrabel said nice things about him.
THREE DOWN
LT Will Campbell: Had a decisive loss in 1-on-1s, gave up three pressures and a sack to K'Lavon Chaisson in team periods. After a good day on Tuesday, this was a rough one for the fourth overall pick.
OL Cole Strange: Was 0 for 2 in 1-on-1s, was moved to center and struggled at times there as well.
DE Keion White: Went 0-2-1 in 1-on-1s and didn't seem to play a ton in team, certainly wasn't impactful. Might have been a light day for him.
ODDS AND ENDS
- Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla attended practice, walking in with Vrabel. I'm sure Karalis is already preparing for full pads and full-contact C's practices because Mazzulla is that kind of sicko. I did see him taking in edge pass rush drills at one point.
- Both Hunter Henry and Kayshon Boutte had good blocks on a productive quick game to TreVeyon Henderson.
- Good block by Ja'Lynn Polk on Isaiah Bolden on a Henderson run that went for about 20 yards.
- Jack Gibbens had a big hit on Lan Larison.
- The kickers went head to head, and both were perfect, hitting from 33, 40, 48 and 53.
- Rookie safety Craig Woodson continues to get some starter reps.
