Giardi: Patriots announce Vrabel's full coaching staff taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

Mike Vrabel and the Patriots have officially announced their coaching staff, which includes 19 new names and seven holdovers. There are no surprises — mostly (I'll get to that).

You know the coordinators: Josh McDaniels, Terrell Williams, and last year's special teams honcho, Jeremy Springer. This will be the first time Williams has run a defense.

The staff features several others who have been coordinators and/or head coaches: Doug Marrone (OL), Todd Downing (WRs), Thomas Brown (Passing game coordinator/tight ends), Ben McAdoo (Senior defensive assistant), and McDaniels.

Marrone is the offensive line coach but will be assisted by Robert Kugler, who worked under Scott Peters this past season, and former Titans assistant Jason Houghtaling. Marrone was the New Orleans Saints OL coach in 2022 and 2023 and was a consultant for Boston College under Bill O'Brien in 2024. O'Brien told the 'Quick Snap' podcast with Brian Hoyer and David Andrews that Marrone has already met with Dante Scarnecchia several times and that Scarnecchia will be around (he has a great affinity for McDaniels).

“The goal in filling out the 2025 Patriots coaching staff was to identify loyal, trustworthy coaches who are diverse in background, ideas, experiences and systems,” said Vrabel in a statement released by the team. “We will be aligned in our vision to teach and develop our players with creativity, consistency and an attention to detail with the major goal of developing relationships that stretch beyond the field and meeting rooms.

“We are going to build a program that players, coaches and staff want to be a part of, protect and be proud of. There are so many great people in this building who help our players and the coaching staff on a daily basis. I am excited to work side by side with them to build this program.

“I want to thank Nancy Meier, Bobby Brown, Bri Avedisian, the video team, equipment team, the HR team and so many others for making the transition seamless for the travel and onboarding of this group.”

The other coaches are Tony Dews (running backs), Ashton Grant (quarterbacks), offensive assistant Riley Larkin, offensive assistant Chuckie Keeton, assistant special teams Tom Quinn, Zak Kuhr (inside linebackers), Scott Booker (safeties), Justin Hamilton (cornerbacks), Clint McMillan (defensive line), Mike Smith (outside linebackers), Vinny DePalma, Kevin Richardson, and Milton Patterson (defensive assistants).

Also, vice president of Football Operations and Strategy, John Streicher; director of sports performance, Frank Piraino; strength and conditioning, Deron Mayo; and assistant strength and conditioning, Brian McDonough.

Mayo is an interesting name. He is Jerod Mayo's brother, and he has been on staff since 2018. He was an assistant strength coach under Bill Belichick and Moses Cabrera before being elevated into the lead role a season ago.
