As we have said before, Cook was always a pipe dream. He's in the prime of his career, wants the biggest contract possible and a major role. The Patriots are not going to give him max value and already have a starter. A marriage is very much a long shot. Is it possible that Cook sees the Patriots bringing in veteran running backs, panics and caves? Yes, anything is possible. But it's not likely for a man who is looking for $9 million per season. Patriots never pay backs.

It was much more likely for the Patriots to fill the void at veteran running back — left open after James Robinson didn't work out — by signing one of the veterans on the street, and there are always many. Fournette, Kareem Hunt and Rex Burkhead would be the biggest names to appeal to the Patriots. The latter two could be next for workouts.

Wouldn't be surprised if they add another receiver. There's a report they have shown interest in Denzel Mims of the Jets, who could be released if he's not traded. The 2020 second-round pick has done nothing in the NFL to this point.
