FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots just concluded the second of three scheduled mini-camp practices on Monday. Here are the headlines, and then our quickie thoughts, observations and some play-by-play about what transpired:
- Bailey Zappe got his first true starter reps of the offseason in the 13th practice period. Mac Jones got the starter reps in the 12th period, and Zappe was with the backups. When they switched to the next period, Zappe stayed on the field with the starting line and top targets. Jones was some 25 yards from the action standing by himself. Trace McSorley then got the reps with the backups. Jones then got the reps with backup line and top weapons.
- Jones responded with 6 for 6 with the backups. Zappe was 5 of 6 with a sack with the starters
- Trent Brown did not participate in practice - he was on the grounds - so that left the line the same as Monday: LT Calvin Anderson, LG Cole Strange, C David Andrews, RG Jake Andrews/Bill Murray, RT Conor McDermott. Also took a look at C Jake Andrews, RG Atonio Mafi, RT Riley Reiff.
- Sacks/pressure was a big issue in this practice. The line/tackle is an issue.
- Also not seen: Lawrence Guy, Kayshon Boutte, Juju Smith-Schuster, Tyquan Thornton.
- Red jerseys: Marte Mapu, Atonio Mafi.
- CB Ameer Speed was looked at on the cart at one point but returned.
- A lot of walkthroughs.
- Mac Jones got all the QB1 reps for the rest of practice.
