BSJ Game Report: Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 6 - Sox smash four homers in fourth straight win

HEADLINES 

Sox show no signs of slowing down against Blue Jays: The Red Sox picked up their fourth consecutive win in their 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays on Tuesday at Fenway Park.

Connor Wong paced the offense as No. 12 went 4-for-4, while crushing the game-winning home run in the eighth inning.

Tanner Houck went six innings on the mound and allowed six runs on six hits. Houck also had five strikeouts and three walks while earning a 5.94 earned-runs average. 

Richard Bleier picked up with win on the mound with a scoreless eighth inning, while Josh Winckowski got the save, closing out the game in the ninth.

The Red Sox built up a 3-0 lead by the fourth inning on separate home runs from Christian Arroyo and Matasaka Yoshida and an RBI single from Rob Refsnyder.

The Blue Jays quickly brought in six runs in the fifth, before the Red Sox evened the score in the sixth.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Daulton Varsho and Kevin Kiermaier each finished with two hits to lead Toronto, while Varsho's three RBI's was tops among the team.

Yusei Kikuchi only lasted 4.1 innings for the Blue Jays and allowed five runs on nine hits. Erik Swanson got the loss as he allowed Wong's second home run.

TURNING POINT

Wong's third hit and first homer of the night tied the game at 6-6 during the sixth and set the stage for the Sox catcher's heroics a couple innings later.

Wong smoked the ball into the Green Monster and after review, it was deemed the ball got over the barrier.

The Blue Jays had just scored six runs an inning prior, however Wong quickly brought the momentum back to the Red Sox' side with his homer.

TWO UP

Wong of a night: A couple of home runs, including the go-ahead shot in the eighth, highlighted Wong's impressive performance at the plate for the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Wong was the only Red Sox player with four hits, as his batting average improved to .290 in the process.

Yoshida makes it 12 straight: A two hit performance, including a home run, improved Yoshida's hit streak to 12 games. Yoshida's homer pushed Boston's lead to 3-0 in the fourth, while his RBI single in the fifth cut the Blue Jays lead to 6-5.

ONE DOWN

Six in five: The Red Sox quickly let the Blue Jays pile on the runs with six during the fifth inning. A three-run home run, a pass ball and a two-run single put Toronto on top 6-3, all with two outs. 

Houck recovered with a one-two-three inning during the sixth, before being replaced by John Schreiber in the seventh.

QUOTE OF NOTE

"It's cool to see, all these kids coming here and getting a chance to play and contribute to this," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. "They're good athletes too and we're a little more athletic with them in the lineup and we can do a lot of things."
