FOXBOROUGH — Practice No. 10 is in the books. We have everything you need to know, including one-on-one pass rush drills, and 4 up/4 down, from today's session:
THREE THINGS THING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Offense completely bottoms out: Ok, so maybe I overstated how bad the offense was in the first padded practice a week ago when I called it "atrocious."
Because today, after two days off, was much worse. They were completely inept.
How bad was it? Before the final two-minute period that was less than half speed, I had the offense running 26 plays. Three — yes, 3 — were moderately successful (gaining at least 5 yards). That means 88.4 percent of the plays were unsuccessful. And it felt that way. Nothing makes me happier than good football. Nothing makes me more miserable than bad football. I was catatonic — and I'm just watching with no vested interest.
You can feel the frustration emanating from the offense, especially from QB Mac Jones who slammed his helmet and had some choices words. After the final team period, Jones was on one knee with his head down. Hunter Henry also took a knee and talked with Jones, who didn't appear to be in the mood. For the first time ever, you could question Jones' effort on a few plays. The first play of the final real team period was an RPO pass down the sidelines to Kendrick Bourne. Jones just quickly threw the ball up and it wasn't close, easily picked off by Jalen Mills. It was like Jones had no faith in the play and just got rid of it. A back-shoulder attempt to Henry was similar.
David Andrews, speaking after practice, wasn't exactly Mr. Positivity either.
What's the feeling right now after a practice like that?
Just gotta go in and correct it tomorrow and come out here, have a better day tomorrow.
You were pretty vocal with the guys, what kind of things are you saying to try to get them going in the right direction?
You know, I said what I said, but now we're just trying to move forward, try to correct it and come out here and have a better day.
What is your level of frustration?
Sometimes you have downs of training camp, and, you know, gotta go in and learn from it, see what we can do better. And like I said, Come out here tomorrow, can't let today or any day derail anything in the future. That's just how it goes, wins and losses. We just got to stay steady. Can't go up and down.
It felt like today was the nadir point for the offense. I don't know how the coaches can look at that and not decide to completely restart things, starting with the offensive line. Jones has zero confidence in anything he's doing when the line is on the field. He's fine in 7 on 7. The Patriots need to get back to basics upfront and start from there.
If you really want to know how bad it was, here are the Mac Jones periods:

Just awful football.

Keene was in the rehab group from the outset, and Asiasi left with the training staff halfway through. They have combined to play in 16 games in two seasons.

ONE-ON-ONE REPORT
(DEC W: Decisive Win. DEC L: Decisive loss)
Offense

Defense

Decisive Wins
- Cajuste completely rag-dolled Perkins.
- Jennings had a great, quick inside spin move that overwhelmed Herron.
Notes
- Strange held Barmore on his first rep and then he was overpowered by Guy.
- Perkins also got shoved to the ground by Durant.
TOP PLAYS
- In 7-on-7s, a nice touch pass from Jones to Parker between two defenders that Parker held onto despite losing his helmet.
- Tyquan Thornton abused Terrance Mitchell with a double move that left the CB in the dust. Impressive.
FOUR UP
DE Matthew Judon: Completely dominated team and one-on-ones.
DB Marcus Jones: Had a sack and two passes defended. He's becoming a menace.
OT Yodny Cajuste: Has really come on in 1-on-1s and could make himself a factor.
WR Tyquan Thornton: Seems to gain confidence every day. His route running is really on point and he's not just a burner. He can create separation with his routes.
FOUR DOWN
QB Mac Jones: He's completely flustered by the lack of protection to the point he's not seeing open receivers. He's sped up in practices where he can't get touched. It's a terrible sign for the regular season.
OT Justin Herron: Could not handle Judon in any setting. He was a disaster 2-on-2 blocking when the linemen had to pass off rushers.
OG Cole Strange: Probably his worst practice of camp. 0 for 2 in one-on-ones, had a tough time in run blocking and 2 on 2 pass blocking drills, and was rough in team. Assistant line coach Billy Yates was all over him the entire practice.
DE Ronnie Perkins: With each passing practice you wonder if he's big enough to play outside of being a dime rusher.
QUICK HITS
- The O-line worked on straight ahead blocks on the sled to start practice with Belichick watching.
- The Patriots pulled a guard on a few occasions and had their best runs. Hmmm ... wonder why that is.
- Team seemed to be working on 2nd and 3rd and long situations.
- Belichick on the strange schedule the last week: "We’re approaching our practices in the best way that we can. The ramp-up period is the ramp-up period. We’ve been in pads more days than we had last year at this time – I’d have to go back and double-check it, but I think so. I’d say the big thing would be working with our strength and conditioning staff. I feel like our team’s as healthy as it’s ever been at this time of year. Part of that has to do with the offseason program, the way guys have worked, and maybe part of it has to do with the way we’ve practiced. But we really have very little in the way of players missing time – players on PUP, NFI, we’ve pretty much cleared that up today. Last year, we had six or seven guys in that category. Plus some other – a variety of things. We try to do what we think is best every year. To try to compare one year to another year is – I don’t know how relevant that is. We look at things where they are and try to make the most of them."
- Agholor was talked to by Belichick after a sack was allowed on a little waggle.
- Onwenu got snaps at RT and Herron was on the left side at one point.
- Lowest attendance of camp. It was about a quarter full, if that.
