Bedard: Patriots Practice Report 05.31.22 - New England eases back in after holiday weekend taken at Gillette Stadium (Patriots)

FOXBOROUGHThe Patriots' second open offseason practice is in the books. Let's check out what happened (or, mostly didn't happen) on Tuesday:

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Patriots take it easy: Bill Belichick must have wanted to ease the boys back into things after the long holiday weekend because this was one of the most low-key OTA practices I've ever seen. The session barely ran an hour — and there were only about 30 minutes of "practice" after an extended conditioning period. Practice consisted of: walkthroughs, stretching/conditioning, position drills, walkthrough. That's it. The Patriots do have two more days in this 3-day OTA period, and then Belichick can't hide his team much (if that's what he's doing). After this week, four of the final five Patriots practices before summer break are open to the media.

More absences: The absentee list grew today, and still included Isaiah Wynn, N'Keal Harry and Matthew Judon — along with Andrew Stueber, Quinn Nordin, Byron Cowart and Anfernee Jennings.

The newer absences: Trent Brown, James White, Chasen Hines, Davon Godchaux, Byron Cowart, Quinn Nordin.

So, yes, the Patriots were without both starting offensive tackles, and their nose tackle.

The good news: Lawrence Guy, Harvey Langhi, Adrian Phillips, Ronnie Perkins and Nick Folk were back.

While it's never great to see guys missing, flight cancellations have been a huge issue around the league today the past couple days, so ....

Belichick was all offense: In the Where's Waldo portion of practice, Belichick spent most of his time keeping an eye on Joe Judge and the QBs/WRs. Belichick was very hands-on, and lined up at DB to give the WRs a look at one point. When the Patriots finally ran some plays later in practice, Belichick was close to the huddle and the QBs, but it was Matt Patricia calling in the plays.
