1. Getting a young player for Schröder
There is chatter out there that Boston wants a 2nd round pick and a young player in return for Schröder. This is posturing to try and start some kind of bidding war. I’m not sure there's that kind of interest for Schröder.
I’m in favor of moving him for one or two 2nd round picks, but Boston might feel like keeping him on the bench and playing him 15-20 minutes rather than 30 is acceptable. And, should Marcus Smart get hurt, he can step in and start.
When Ime Udoka talked about things changing based on recent performance, this is it. This would be the message to the Jays that ‘hey we passed up some picks to make sure you had a puncher’s chance this year.’
2. Grant Williams available for tax purposes?
No way. I don’t buy this at all. The Celtics have a handful of better options for simply tax purposes.
Am I anti-Grant trade? No, but he’s proven to be a valuable player. If he’s traded, it had better be as part of a package for a bigger name.
3. Josh Richardson in play?
If the Celtics keep Schröder and trade Richardson, it had better not open up another rash of Schröder/Smart overlapping minutes.
If they keep Schröder, might as well keep Richardson and let it ride. Unless someone drops an amazing offer (and no, it’s not Talen Horton-Tucker plus a pick), then he’s proven himself to be a key piece.
Keep Richardson regardless, let the season play out.
