The Red Sox announced a new management team for their Triple-A Worcester staff Monday.
The Sox appointed Chad Tracy as the new manager, Jose David Flores as the team's bench coach and Mike Montville as an assistant hitting coach.
Tracy replaces Billy McMillon, who managed the team in its first year of existence, but was fired in October.
Tracy, not to be confused with the former major league infielder of the same name, is the son of former major league manager Jim Tracy. Chad Tracy worked for the last four years as the field coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels. Previously, he had managed in the Angels' minor league system at Low Single-A Burlington and High-A Inland Empire.
He played nine seasons in the minors and in independent ball. His father Jim managed the L.A. Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies, and was a candidate to be Alex Cora's bench coach in 2018 before the Sox chose Ron Roenicke. Cora played for the senior Tracy early in his major league career with the Dodgers.
Flores has spent more than 20 years as a coach and manager in the major and minor leagues. He was the Philadelphia Phillies' first base coach in 2018 and spent two seasons as the third base coach for the Baltimore Orioles in 2019-2020. He also served as the Chicago Cubs' minor league infield coordinator. He's also managed extensively in winter ball and in international competition.
Rich Gedman (primary hitting instructor) and Paul Abbott (pitching coach) will return in their current capacities.
