Final: Game 2 - White Sox 5, Red Sox 1 (7)

Stifled by Michael Kopech and a parade of relievers, the Red Sox managed just four hits and were beaten by the Chicago White Sox, 5-1, completing a sweep by the visitors in a split doubleheader.

The Red Sox didn't have a baserunner until the fourth inning. Almost all of their offense came in the fourth inning, but even then, there were limited. After a run home on a single by J.D. Martinez, they had runners at first and second and no out and didn't move the runners so much as 90 feet.

The White Sox jumped on starter Martin Perez for a run in the first, then chased him in the fourth with three more runs.

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS

B6: Xander Bogaerts has got that one down pretty good -- blooper that on the warning track just beyond first base, and hops into the stands for a ground rule double. Second in the last two days.

B4: Sox waste a golden chance. Had a run in and with two on and no out, but can't add on as Foster retires the middle third of the order in a row.

B4: As Red Sox continue to stir to life, J.D. Martinez singles sharply into CF, delivering Hernandez from second for first Boston run.

B4: In short order, the Red Sox get their first baserunner (walk to Hernandez) and first hit (single by Alex Verdugo) and have something of a rally with two on and no out. Kopech leaves for Matt Foster.

T4: Christian Vazquez, who appeared to have struck home plate umpire Doug Eddings as he tried to throw down to first, sails the ball down the right field line for a throwing error as Mendick takes second.

T4: Bloop single by Danny Mendick falls in between Hernandez and Verdugo, scoring Leury Garcia from second base. That's all for Perez, who is replaced by Austin Brice.

T4: Not a bad changeup from Martin Perez - down and away-  but Yermin Mercedes blasted it into the CF bleachers.

B3: Through the first three innings, the Red Sox not only don't have a baserunner -- they haven't gotten the ball out of the infield against Kopech.

T3: Hernandez fields a ball up the middle, steps on the bag and fires to first for a double play, getting Perez out of a first-and-third, one-out jam.

B2: Former Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech, part of the Chris Sale trade, looks strong in his first two innings, retiring the first six in a row, including three by strikeout.

T1: This marks the fifth time in the last seven games that the opponent has scored at least one run in their first at-bat.

T1: The second game begins with echoes of the first, with a liner off the glove of Xander Bogaerts for one hit and  Kiké Hernandez bobbles a feed that negated would could have been a double play.
