PREGAME NOTES:

With Tuukka Rask still on the shelf, Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net for Boston — while Anton Blidh and Karson Kuhlman (who only missed one game after blocking a shot on Thursday) will replace Chris Wagner and Greg McKegg on the fourth line. As of this morning, Brad Marchand, Jake DeBrusk and Sean Kuraly remain on the COVID-19 protocol list.

Despite the Devils' struggles this season, they have given Boston fits this season — with Boston just 1-2-1 against New Jersey through four games. In two games at TD Garden, the Devils have handed Boston regulation losses.

"Good team speed, they've been opportunistic against us," Bruce Cassidy said of the Devils. "And they've got good goaltending…I think we have three or four goals whatever it is, so obviously they've done a good job defending us. That starts with the goalie. But at the end of the day, I think it's more about us. We've got to play our game - this is three in four [nights]. We've got to find the energy. Having people in the building I think helps on a day like today where you might be down a little bit on the energy because of the schedule. Hopefully the crowd will give us a bit of a boost. I know it's not a full 18,000 but we sure heard them yesterday, so that will help, too, this time round whereas last time we didn't have that."
