Red Sox Notebook: LeBron James set to join Sox as limited partner; Houck still searching vs. LHH taken at BSJ Headquarters (Red Sox)

LeBron James is poised to become a limited partner in the Red Sox ownership group, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

James and his business partner, Maverick Carter, are positioned to purchase shares of Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of the Red Sox and other properties (NESN, Roush Racing, Fenway Sports Management). James had already partnered with FSG to purchase an ownership stake in Liverpool FC of the English Premier League.

James and Carter will become the first Black owners in club history.

Separately, the Sox are also prepared to welcome an investment from RedBird Capital Partners of $750 million, the Globe reported, making them the third-largest shareholder in FSG behind principal owner John Henry and team chairman Tom Werner.

RedBird is a New York-based investment firm that counts Oakland A's president Billy Beane among its partners.

Both deals must first be approved by Major League Baseball.
