Well, that picked up quite a bit.

Great glove stop by Halak.

Can't let the Islanders get inside like that.

5:00 to go.

Back and forth play at this point. Islanders, as expected, aren't giving up much.

B's struggling with breakouts in the early going.

Third period is a go.

End Second: 1-1 game.

B's can't convert. Krejci had the best chance, but Varlamov turns it aside at the last minute.

Not sure how that's a boarding call, but ...

Now Boston to the power play.

Bruins survive some taxing minutes in their own end.

Good kill from Boston.

Bruins to the PK. Coyle heads off.

B's countering now with stronger shifts - including that Bergeron line.

Good shift from the Coyle line.

Eberle nearly buries one.

A good look from Vaak there. Heads-up play.

Puck is dropped.

A few milestones to watch tonight — Pastrnak sitting at 399 points. Marchand needs one point to tie Ken Hodge for 9th on the Bruins in all-time scoring.

Bruins need that power play to kick in. 0-12 in their last six games. 3-for-28 in last 12 games.

PREGAME NOTES:

Nassau Coliseum has been a house of horrors for the Bruins this season, with Boston dropping three straight games in 2021 after entering the new campaign with a 10-game winning streak against the Islanders on the road. New York is on a roll, winning five games in a row and securing points in eight straight games.

"They play a similar from-the-blue-line-in style to the Bruins," Bruce Cassidy said of the Islanders. "Maybe a little more so in terms of the personnel of 2011, '12, '13. They'll give you more space in the zone but their D are always inside the dots, they're long, they've got good sticks and they box out well. What can you do? You can attack them and drive the pucks deeper, maybe below the goal line at times, force them to turn their feet in a different direction and maybe get pucks into the slot. You've got to work hard to get inside. There's obviously some will and commitment to getting in there."

———

Cassidy will shuffle up his lineup on Tuesday, with Jake DeBrusk scratched for the first time this season. With DeBrusk out, Jack Studnicka will slot up to the second line and skate on the wing, while Sean Kuraly will return to his usual spot at 4C.

"Just play his game. He's a proud guy," Cassidy said of what he expects from Kuraly. "Work hard on his faceoffs. He's probably gonna be matched up against good players because he starts in our end probably 80 percent of the time. Bring some energy, which he typically does. That's not his problem. Just manage the puck a little better. I think he's had some games where his decision making could be better. It happens to every player so that was another one of the messages. You don't have to force a play every time. Use your feet.

"You're one of the quicker guys in the league to open up space for yourself and make your play. I think he's been maybe thinking a little bit instead of just reacting and playing. That's what he hope to get out of him. I'm sure we will."

———

Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net, with Dan Vladar serving as the backup. Tuukka Rask did not travel down to Long Island, with the netminder appearing to tweak something on Sunday.

However, Cassidy doesn't believe that Rask's injury issues are major.

"He's feeling better," Cassidy said of Rask. "But we just felt why mix in a couple of plane rides when not necessary…I don't [believe it's serious], just some maintenance, save him a trip. Simple as that."
