Good morning!
Your daily rundown of what's going on with the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Revolution, and what's about to happen, this installment for members only ...
- The Dolphins have reportedly informed Kyle Van Noy that after one year and $15 million, that he'll be released.
- As opposed to some of the other Patriots castoffs, that would be one reunion (and Danny Shelton) that I would be interested in. Van Noy played the edge in this scheme about as well as you could play it. The Patriots don't have any known commodity there right now (hopefully John Simon doesn't return). Chase Winovich, Josh Uche and/or Anfernee Jennings are still projections until they actually do it.
- Having Van Noy return would boost the run defense, as we talked about.
- I would expect the Patriots to have competition for Van Noy, which might turn them off. Last year, the Ravens, Giants and Jets also made overtures for Van Noy. He would be an ideal replacement for Matthew Judon or Yannick Ngakoue if the Ravens lose both. Joe Judge might come hard after Van Noy. And he'd certainly help the Jets. With the Patriots having so much cap space, not sure Van Noy would give them a discount.
- Would also be a good replacement for Shaq Barrett, if Tampa can't keep him. I have a feeling Van Noy would like to stay in warm weather. Strikes me as that kind of guy. He really liked Miami. Vegas is also a possibility. They need edge help.
- NFL Network reported the Dolphins will try to trade him first.
- I'm more concerned/interested in what this says about Brian Flores and what they're doing down in Miami. Why does he keep changing his mind suddenly, whether it's OCs, QBs, big free-agent decisions, etc? It would not be a shock to see Tua Tagovailoa replaced by Deshaun Watson. If they haven't already received it, they're going to get a reputation as being Not For Long, and that may turn off assistant coaches and free agents.
- Said one NFL source: "He’s kinda shooting blind, it seems."

NOTE on National college basketball schedule. There are so many channels (what the heck is FloHoops?) and Covid cancelations, we simply can't list every game that's on. Haven't really found a good list, but the NCAA daily schedule is here.
