Red Sox Notebook: How others view Sox and free agency; list of minor league FA's

It's that time of year when many media outlets make their projections about where this year's class of free agents will end up -- and, in some cases, for how much money.

Obviously, given the uncertainty surrounding Major League Baseball, that's harder than ever before. It would seem a given that teams will spend less and be even more circumspect in the free agent market than they have been the previous two winters.

But that hasn't stopped some from making some bold predictions.

MLB Trade Rumors has the Red Sox being pretty active, signing:

• LHP Jose Quintana to a two-year, $28 million deal. Quintana, 32, is ranked No. 19 among the Top 50 free agents. Quintana profiles as a middle-to-back-end starter, capable of being an innings eater, though due to some injuries, he barely pitched at all in 2020.  In the previous seven seasons, however, Quintana averaged more than 192 innings per season.


• 2B Kolten Wong to a two-year, $16 million deal. Wong, 30, recently had his 2021 $12.5 million option declined, making him a free agent. He's one of the best defenders at his position in the game. Wong is only an average offensive player, though he does have decent speed (24 steals in 2019).


• RHP Anthony DeSclafani to a one-year, $4 million deal. DeSclafani, 31, was originally drafted out of high school by the Red Sox in 2008 (he didn't sign). DeSclafani could essentially replace Martin Perez, whom the Sox Sunday deemed too expensive at $6.25 million.
