FINAL: Chiefs 26, Patriots 10 - New England gets very little out of QBs taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Adam Richins for BSJ)

Well, that was interesting.

In a game that was delayed and with the Patriots traveling the day of the game, it had a very distinct Thursday Night feel and both teams didn't seem all that thrilled to be there.

Regardless, the Patriots' defense, offensive line and running backs played well enough to know off the Chiefs, but the Patriots couldn't get anything out of their QBs without Cam Newton as Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham combined to complete 54 percent of their passes and post a 43.8 rating.

It's too bad. The Patriots' defense clearly frustrated the Chiefs' offense, which only converted 4 of 11 third downs

Patriots fall to 2-2 and the Chiefs improve to 4-0.

LIVE COVERAGE

FOURTH QUARTER

  • PI on Honey Badger caused Stidham pick on his first pass. Good call. Patriots in red zone.

  • Great pass, Stidham to Harry for a TD. CHIEFS 13, PATRIOTS 10.

  • Hardman scores a TD to end a 75-yard drive. Butker misses the XP. CHIEFS 19, PATRIOTS 10.

  • Edelman's second drop is caught again ... by the Chiefs this time and returned for a TD. CHIEFS 26, PATRIOTS 10.

  • Stidham picked off with 3:18 left.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Patriots defense continues to win this game.

  • Hoyer with nice pass to Edelman on 3rd down. Keeps clock running.

  • Hoyer to Byrd for 25 yards in tight window. Patriots knocking on the door.

  • Herron beaten for a strip sack of Hoyer and the Patriots get no points again. Hoyer can't hold the ball that long.

  • Hill goes around the end on third and goal to score the game's first TD. CHIEFS 13, PATRIOTS 3.

  • Stidham in.

  • Harris goes for 9 and 41 yards to end quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Watkins fumbles after Gilmore punches it out and Jackson recovers.

  • Tracy Wolfson reports Eluemunor is out with a migraine.

  • Patriots convert on 3rd and 7 when Edelman's drop goes right to Gunner Olszewski.

  • Patriots driving after 14 yards from Harris on two carries.

  • Burkhead 18-yard run.

  • Harry can't get separation on 3rd down. FG from Folk. CHIEFS 6, PATRIOTS 3.

  • Patriots had a game-changing INT by Calhoun off a Winovich sack ruled down and forward progress stopped ... in the grasp. That's not reviewable.

  • Patriots had a chance for at least a FG but Hoyer took a sack when the Patriots had no timeouts left. End of half.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Devin McCourty dropped a wide-open INT, then KC coverts 3rd and 5 to Hill for 22 yards and another on the next play to Hill for 17 yards. On third and goal, Mahomes has Watkins open but the pass wasn't accurate. CHIEFS 3, PATRIOTS 0

  • Patriots go 3 and out after coming up 1 yard short on third down from Hoyer to Byrd. Weird o-line: Wynn, Thuney, Ferentz, Onwenu and Herron. No Eluemunor or Froholdt.

  • Three and out for Chiefs as Olszewski gets the punt return.

  • First 1st down for Patriots on a Zuber reverse with nice block from Hoyer.

  • High pass on 3rd down by Hoyer to Byrd. Leads to punt.

  • Patriots hold the Chiefs to another field goal after a 75-yard drive. CHIEFS 6, PATRIOTS 0.

  • Hoyer picked on one of his staple passes — high to the seam.
