Ninth-inning rally results in comeback win: It had all the feel of a demoralizing loss. The Red Sox have given up a four-run lead as their bullpen stumbled badly, and the team appeared headed for its sixth win in seven tries. But trailing by a run in the bottom of the ninth, the Red Sox got a game-tying homer from Xander Bogaerts, who had been just 3-for-24 before that at-bat. After Christian Vazquez reached on a fielder's choice, he took off for a second and Blue Jays' catcher Caleb Joseph's throw sailed into center for an error, enabling Vazquez to scoot to third. The Jays brought the infield in, but Yairo Munoz hit a grounder to the left side. Third baseman Travis Shaw ranged over to the cut the ball off, but his throw to the plate was up the first base line and Vazquez slid in, just ahead of the tag. The victory was the second walk-off win of the season for the Sox; the first one (Aug. 9) also came against Toronto when Mitch Moreland homered to give them a win.

- The Sox hit three homers in the second, the first time they had hit that many in a single inning since July 22, 2019 against the Orioles.
