BSJ Daily Briefing 09.01.20: Bruins bow out, is this the end? Sox at deadline; Celtics Game 2; Patriots line battles

• Bruins in fell in double overtime to the Lightning when new-Bruins killer Patrick Maroon parked his big butt in front of Jaro Halak, Torey Krug was out of his weight class and Victor Hedman finished off being the best player in the series with the game-winner.


• Boston's season, once so promising, is now over. It's a tough pill to swallow ... always want to stay on the Stanley Cup train as long as possible because it's just a heck of a lot of fun, but the Lightning were the better team no matter who was in goal.


• The issue with this team, and it's always been the same for years — they just aren't good enough 5v5. Think they scored 5 goals even strength all series ... they were outscored 14-5 even strength. I don't care who your goalie is, that's not going to cut it.


• Man, was that Coyle line good in this game or what? Conor has some great stats on how good they were.


• Is this the end for this core? Felt like it in the postgame, where David Krejci was near tears and Zdeno Chara just started off in the distance. Sounds like the NBC crew knew this was the end for Big Z, at least in Boston.


• Obviously wanted this to continue, but I have to say I kind of liked watching the kids play. Young legs are good legs.


• Now the city turns its eyes to the Celtics, who are three wins away from punching their ticket to the Eastern Conference final. Early start for Game 2 tonight, so be ready.


• Red Sox dealt off a couple of more pieces, but what did they really accomplish?


• Some surprising results on the Patriots camp 1-on-1s.
