The Red Sox outhit the New York Yankees, but the Yankees made theirs count as four left the ballpark, allowing them to sweep their four-game series with the Sox, 6-3.
Luke Voit hit two homers and Aaron Hicks and Thairo Estrada each hit solo shots, as the Sox lost their eighth straight.
Christian Vazquez delivered the first run with a bloop single over short. Alex Verdugo drove in the second for the Sox. A triple by Jose Peraza and a double from Jonathan Arauz greeted Aroldis Chapman in his season debut.
The Sox have dropped 14 of the last 15 meetings in New York.

- The Red Sox made a number of roster moves prior to the game. They optioned RHP Chris Mazza, Sunday night's starter, to their alternate training site while reinstating LHP Josh Taylor. Taylor tested positive for COVID-19 at the beginning of summer camp and had been on the IL. "We'll see how he is,'' said Ron Roenicke of Taylor. "It's great having him back, but it's probably a little unfair to think he's going to be like last year when he came up and did so well for us. We tried to build him up as best we could and give him as many outings as we could before we activated him. I'm hoping he's pitches the same way, but I can't say I necessarily think he's going to do exactly the same thing. Hopefully, it won't take him long, but it is good to have that piece back that you know you used in certain situations last year and worked so well.''
- Also, the Red Sox placed INF Christian Arroyo on the IL, retroactive to Friday. No reason was given, but a source said Arroyo was placed on the list because the Sox had to solidify his status after claiming him on waivers last Thursday, and he had not yet completed his intake with the Sox. He's expected to be activated Tuesday when the Red Sox begin a brief two-game homestand.
- Roenicke said Darwinzon Hernandez, who was sidelined with Taylor early in camp with a positive test "is probably a few days away,'' from also joining the club. Herhandez threw three innings over the weekend in Pawtucket.
