PREGAME NOTES: 

The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will be settled on Sunday afternoon, as Boston and Washington will jockey for playoff positioning during their round-robin finale at Scotiabank Arena. 

The winner will be the No. 3 seed and face the New York Islanders, the No. 6 seed, in a best-of-7 series in the Eastern Conference First Round. As the No. 4 seed, the loser will play the Carolina Hurricanes, the No. 5 seed.

The Bruins, who are 0-2-0 so far in round-robin play, have only won two out of their last 18 matchups against Washington — but managed to best the Caps in their last meeting, 7-3, back on Dec. 23, 2019.

After missing Friday’s skate due to “unfit to participate” designations, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Jaroslav Halak were all back on the ice at the Ford Performance Centre in Toronto on Saturday afternoon — with both Bergeron and Krejci slated to play on Sunday. 

Ondrej Kase will make his debut in Phase 4 play, with the winger skating to Krejci’s right. Connor Clifton will draw into the lineup on Sunday against Washington, with Matt Grzelcyk given a “maintenance day off.” Tuukka Rask is expected to start and play the whole game, while Jake DeBrusk will be back at left wing on Krejci’s line. 

Capitals coach Todd Reirden announced ahead of puck drop that John Carlson would not play for the third straight game due to injury, while Nicklas Backstrom will be a game-time decision.
