FINAL: Blue Jays 2, Red Sox 1 - Toronto gets to Walden as offense grinds to halt

Not a whole lot of mystery to this one.

The Red Sox were outhit 9-4 and have so many guys lost at the plate, they're going to need a huge map to back on the road.

Heath Hembree and Marcus Walden each allowed runs in their innings to end a two-game winning streak.

• Ron Roenicke finally did it ... Ice-cold Andrew Benintendi (2 for 33 to start the season) is out of the lead-off spot, and he has been replaced by Alex Verdugo, who has homered three times the past two games. “I’m trying to get Benny going and maybe that relaxes him some going down in the order, and then also with Verdugo being hot the last couple games .... when he’s hitting well, he can go first, second or third, he can go six, seven, eight, nine. There’s a lot of spots," said Roenicke. "Hopefully he continues to be patient at the plate. I know he hit a couple of homers yesterday, but hopefully, he’s not trying to do that all the time. He’s going to hit homers, but we need him on base for the big guys.”


• Ryan Weber was optioned to Pawtucket in favor of Dylan Covey, a first-round pick in 2010 of the Rays. His only Sox appearance came on July 25 against the Orioles, when he allowed two runs on three hits in two innings of work. ... Weber struggled in three starts this season (9.90 ERA). In 10 innings, Weber allowed 15 hits (five homers), nine walks and 11 earned runs.
