PREGAME NOTES:

  • The Bruins, who have lost two in a row, have a tough test in front of them with the Penguins, who are looking for their fifth straight win on Thursday night. The Pens, who have been slammed with the injury bug all year long, did receive some good news earlier this week, as Sidney Crosby returned to Pittsburgh’s lineup Tuesday after missing over two months due to core muscle surgery. Crosby tallied four points that night in a win over the Wild.

  • The Bruins will have a new-look lineup on Thursday, as Karson Kuhlman will replace Brett Ritchie on the third line after Ritchie was placed on waivers Wednesday. Ritchie has since cleared waivers and will report to Providence. Boston may be without David Krejci, who did not practice on Thursday morning due to an upper-body injury. He’s officially listed as a game-time decision for tonight.

  • Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net, as Tuukka Rask was officially placed on injured reserve Thursday morning. Bruce Cassidy noted that Rask was at Warrior Ice Arena Thursday and was feeling better, but there is no set timeline for his return. With Rask out, Boston has also called Dan Vladar up from Providence.
