PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins have a tough task against the Capitals on Monday, with Washington posting wins in 16 of its last 17 games against the B’s. While Boston is 12-1-8 this season at TD Garden, they have not posted a win since December 3 against the Hurricanes.
- Boston will be without Zdeno Chara, who underwent a procedure on his jaw Monday in order to take out the plates and screws from his previous procedure back in June during the Stanley Cup Final. He is not expected to miss any additional games. With Chara out, John Moore will get a look in the top D pair with Charlie McAvoy, while Joakim Nordstrom will slot in for Chris Wagner up front.
- While Boston has been stuck in a 1-4-4 rut, five of the B's losses during that stretch were by a single goal, and Boston enters Monday's game with a four-game point streak (1-0-3). But the Caps present a number of challenges to a B’s team looking to break out — namely in the form of netminder Braden Holtby, who is 18-3-0 with a .944 save percentage in 21 games against the Bruins.
