PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins, looking to snap out of a three-game losing streak, have a tough test in front of them in the Capitals, who sit atop the NHL standings thanks to a 22-5-5 record. Wednesday’s showdown in D.C. will pit the top two teams (points wise) in the NHL, the two division leaders in the Eastern Conference and the last two Stanley Cup Finalists from the conference.
- Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net for Boston, while Connor Clifton might slot back into the lineup. If Clifton doesn’t replace John Moore tonight, he will get the call on Thursday against the Lightning.
- While the Bruins are coming off of a miserable loss to the Senators, the Caps also fell on Monday, dropping a 5-2 game on home ice to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Despite the loss, Washington still saw Nicklas Backstrom return to the lineup after an eight-game absence due to injury.
- In the last meeting between these two clubs, the Capitals rallied late en route to a shootout victory in Boston back on Nov. 16, with T.J. Oshie forcing extra time with a tally during a 6v5 stretch in the final minute of regulation.
- While Boston posted a win over the Capitals in their last matchup at the Capital One Arena — a 1-0 victory back on Feb. 3 — Washington has won 15 of its last 16 games against the Bruins.
- Braden Holtby is once again expected to get the start in net for Washington, with the veteran looking to continue his great play against Boston. The goalie is 17-3-0 with a 1.81 goals against average and .944 save percentage in 20 career games against Boston.
