Kicker roulette continues: Folk (appendix) out, Forbath in; Sick Pats return

A little bit of a busy Thanksgiving day for the Patriots as they prepare for the Texans on Sunday night.

Kicker Nick Folk underwent an appendectomy, according to a league source, but is expected to be back next week.

In his place, the team is expected to sign veteran Kai Forbath to kick against the Texans.

Forbath previously worked out for the team when Stephen Gostkowski went on injured reserve.

Forbath, 32, kicked in three games for the Jaguars last season (4-of-5 FGs, 3-of-3 XPs). He has a career field-goal percentage of 85.7. He missed a total of eight extra points between '16 and '17.

Folk has done a good job for the Patriots since replacing Mike Nugent. He missed two 45-plus kicks on Sunday in terrible conditions.

At practice, flu-ridden Patriots players Patrick Chung, Jamie Collins, Jermaine Elumunor and Stephon Gilmore returned to practice. Dont'a Hightower, Ryan Izzo, Joejuan Williams, and Isaiah Wynn all were out sick for the second-straight day.

Tom Brady (elbow) was limited.
