PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins are finally set to get some reinforcements up front, as David Krejci will make his first start since Oct. 14 against Anaheim. The veteran pivot, who missed the previous five games due to an upper-body injury, will return to his usual spot on the second line, skating alongside Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen. While Heinen might give that line a different look, Bruce Cassidy did note that there’s a good chance the two-way forward could be flipped with Brett Ritchie as the game progresses.
- Chris Wagner will return to the lineup after missing Sunday’s game due to a lower-body injury, but Joakim Nordstrom will be out a bit longer due to an infection in his elbow. Cassidy initially ruled him out already for Saturday’s game against Ottawa, but added that the team just “needs to let (the infection) calm down.” Par Lindholm will also sit out after suffering an upper-body injury on Sunday in New York.
- These aren’t the Sharks you’re used to seeing, as San Jose is sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a record of 4-7-1. The Sharks will close out a five-game road trip with Tuesday’s matchup.
- While a Sharks defense “anchored” by Martin Jones in net has once again been a weakness of this club (3.58 goals against per game - 26th in NHL), San Jose’s offense has also bottomed out this year — ranking 24th in the league with just 2.58 goals scored per game.
- This will be Joe Thornton’s 20th career game against the Bruins, and could stand as his final game at TD Garden. In his previous 19 meetings against his former club, Thornton has tallied nine goals and posted 16 total points.
