- Saturday will mark the first meeting between these Original Six rivals since Boston dispatched Toronto in yet another seven-game slugfest last April in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
- Both clubs are dealing with their fair share of injuries this season, as both David Krejci and Joakim Nordstrom will sit out for Boston due to upper-body injuries. Patrice Bergeron, who did not practice on Friday morning and was a bit of a question mark for tonight, will play. Toronto will be without second-line center John Tavares, who is expected to miss at least two weeks due to a broken finger.
- With Krejci and Nordstrom out of the lineup, Charlie Coyle will take Krejci’s place in the lineup as the B’s second-line center, while Par Lindholm will handle third-line center duties. David Backes will make his return to game action after sitting out the previous three games, with the veteran joining Sean Kuraly and Chris Wagner on the fourth line. Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net for Boston.
- David Pastrnak will look to keep his hot streak going, as the winger has racked up 13 points (eight goals, five assists) over his last five games. Against Toronto, Pastrnak has feasted — with the winger tallying 17 goals and 35 total points over his last 24 games (postseason included) against the Leafs.
