PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins are set to receive their first major test of the 2019-20 season, as Boston will welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning to TD Garden on Thursday. Even if Tampa was bounced in the first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, this is the same club that racked up 62 wins last season — and boasts plenty of that same high-end talent.
- Still, the Lightning have struggled a bit out of the gate, especially when it comes to puck possession and overall shot share. So far, the Bolts are averaging just 25.7 shots per game (last in the NHL), while relinquishing 34.2 shots per game (29th in NHL) down the other end of the ice. Tampa will close out a six-game road trip with Thursday’s matchup.
- The Bruins will be shorthanded up front, as David Krejci will not play Thursday night due to an upper-body injury he suffered during Monday’s win over the Ducks. With Krejci out, Boston will be forced to shuffle up both its second and third lines — with Charlie Coyle bumped into the top six and Par Lindholm returning to the lineup. Tuukka Rask will get the start in net, while Connor Clifton will return to his usual spot on the third D pairing. The rookie blue liner was scratched Monday in favor of Steven Kampfer.
- While Tampa Bay went 3-1 against the Bruins last year, TD Garden has historically been a house of horrors for the Lightning, with the visitors only posting eight wins in 52 matchups on Causeway Street.
