Michael Bennett suspended by Patriots one game for conduct detrimental to the team

A very busy day for the Patriots — we need a moment because Dan Skipper is being signed to the Texans' 53-man roster — turned chaotic on Tuesday afternoon as Michael Bennett admitted he has been suspended by the team for the Jets game.

"On Friday, I had a philosophical disagreement with my position coach that has led to my suspension," Bennett told ESPN. "I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused."

The suspension was first reported by NFL Network.

Brett Bielema is Bennett's position coach. Perhaps Bennett was trying to get clarification for his lack of playing time, which he talked about with BSJ after the game.

In injury news, WR Josh Gordon (knee) and TE Matt LaCosse (knee) were not present when the media is there. Not a surprise on either. Both players are expected to miss 2-4 weeks with MCL/ankle injuries.

In other news, the Patriots signed WR Devin Ross and G/C Tyler Gauthier to the practice squad, and released K Younghoe Koo and TE Jason Vander Laan. Skipper's signing with the Texans was reported by Mike Reiss.

BSJ Analysis 

Well, guess the only question now is whether this signals the end for Bennett in New England?

From the conversation I had with Bennett — on and off the record — I think he just wants to play. At the least, he would like someone to explain to him why he's not playing and what he has to do to get more time.

That being said, Bennett has been highly productive when he has been in the game. But he's been limited on early downs.

If I had to guess at the Bielema interaction ... I would bet Bielema was questioning Bennett's effort during the Giants game, and Bennett probably went off saying, 'You try to play after sitting for 90 minutes at my age ..." and it went from there.

That, or Bielema called out Bennett for his comments to me and Bennett didn't like it.

I would guess this would be it for Bennett. I'm an advocate for a trade to Detroit, which needs pass rush help, for Danny Amendola. The Lions need help, Amendola only had one target against the Packers.
