PREGAME NOTES:

  • After dropping a disappointing game against the Avalanche on Thursday, the Bruins will return home to TD Garden for the first time this season. Boston was dominant on home ice during the 2018-19 regular season, posting a record of 29-9-3.

  • Tonight stands as the first of three matchups between the Devils and Bruins this season. Boston posted a 2-1 record against New Jersey in 2018-19. The lone change up front for Boston on Saturday will be on the third line, with Brett Ritchie slotting in next to Charlie Coyle and Danton Heinen. Tuukka Rask will get the start in net.

  • The Devils drew plenty of headlines for their moves during the offseason, but so far it hasn’t translated into on-ice performance in October. New Jersey is currently 0-2-2 and has surrendered an average of 4.50 goals per game this year. Jack Hughes, the top pick of the 2019 NHL Draft, has yet to record a point through four games this year. He will center New Jersey’s third line on Saturday.

  • Boston’s power play has yet to hit its stride in the early going, but it will have a great chance to break out against a Devils’ penalty kill that ranks dead last in the league with a success rate of just 46.1%. New Jersey’s power play is also 0-for-11 to start the year.
