Final: Red Sox 7, Rockies 4

After launching three homers at Coors Field Tuesday, the Red Sox cranked up their power game Wednesday, belting four home runs in a 7-4 win over the Colorado Rockies and a sweep of the two-game series.

Xander Bogaerts went deep twice while Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez had one each to give the Sox a 4-1 record on their West Coast trip. The homers accounted for six of the seven runs.

Eduardo Rodriguez struggled over five innings, allowing three runs while allowing nine hits and three walks, but still won his 16th game.

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

12:05    Devers has broken out in a big way tonight. After seeing his slump extend to 15 hitless at-bats, he's got a triple single and now, homer. And on a 1-and-2 count, no less.

11:23    Bogaerts joins Vern Stephens, Rico Petrocelli and Nomar Garciaparra as the only Red Sox shortstops to hit 30 or more homers in a season. Three homers in two nights.

10:59  Devers probably could have tagged Desmond, advancing from second to third, but instead, tries to get the out at first. A long throw, decent speed by the runner and it's a run-scoring infield hit.

10:44  Vazquez misses a three-run homer by about a foot and has to settled for a long, run-scoring single.

10:22  For the second straight night, Bogaerts goes deep, this time to the opposite field, driving a fastball on the outer half. Bogaerts is now a homer away of becoming the fourth shortstop in franchise history to reach that milestone.

10:12   Surprise bunt by Garrett Hampson scores Ian Desmond from third. Smart play by the Rockies, with Devers way back on the infield dirt.

10:00  Rodriguez issues his third walk in the last three innings. Eventually, in that ballpark, it's going to cost a pitcher who puts men on base.

9:32   After Peter Lambert carefully worked J.D. Martinez down and away, he left a changeup over the middle of the plate and Martinez drilled it into the left field seats for a two-run homer. Sox have now homered in 18 straight games.

9:28  Rafael Devers ends an 0-for-15 skid by golfing a pitch  down the right field line for a standup triple.

 9:01 Nice turn by Mitch Moreland, who gets a tough 3-6-3 double play, husting back to the bag to take the return throw from Xander Bogaerts. Of course, he had to scurry back because, per usual, Eduardo Rodriguez didn't break for first when he should have.
