Road to 53, v.19.04 - Demaryius Thomas coming off PUP makes things even tougher taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Jorge Lemus/NurPhoto)

Well, what do you know? It sure appears that Demaryius Thomas is off the PUP list, as he showed up to practice today in uniform.

That's ahead of schedule from a second Achilles surgery, and ruins all plans to bring him back after Week 6. Now that he's off PUP, he can't go back on. Thomas will either make the team, be released or get re-injured and go on IR.

The roster squeeze is fully on now that Thomas, Julian EdelmanJosh Gordon (he's on NFI but we're including him for this exercise), Nate Ebner and Ken Webster have been reinstated to the roster.

Time to get the scalpel out and make a few trims:

One note before we get going. I've made a structural change to the way I do the depth chart. Instead of edge and interior defensive line, I'm going with outside linebacker and defensive line. With the Patriots becoming more of a 3-4 team (for about 30 percent of snaps), they're obviously looking for different body types now, so it's important to make that distinction. As you can see, they're actually light at OLB, even with me shifting Kyle Van Noy there. But with Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins capable of playing there, the depth is OK.

Also, changes from the last version are in green.
