HEADLINES

New England escapes the Pacific Northwest with a point following wild draw: First they were down, then they were up; two quick Seattle goals changed that. But a late Revolution penalty saw The Boys In Blue claim a vital point, and temporarily moved up to sixth in the Eastern Conference standings thanks to Saturday afternoon’s 3-3 draw at The C-Link (we’ll update that following the results later tonight). The draw extends New England’s road unbeaten streak to six straight (3-0-3), which is a club record. It’s the Revs’ third straight draw against the Sounders, and it’s the ninth straight trip to the West Coast that sees Robert Kraft’s soccer stepsons claim at least a point dating back to 2016.

Gil’s late pen salvages the result: New England had led 2-1 at the intermission — and if we’re being frank, it could have been more — but things found themselves turned on their ear in the 65th and 66th minutes: a poorly marked Harry Shipp, who scored Seattle’s opener, headed in the equalizer, before an untracked Nicolas Lodeiro popped his shot off Andrew Farrell’s ankle, misdirecting it enough to just barely get by Matt Turner to give the hosts a 3-2 lead. But 20 minutes later, Carles Gil’s cross smacked Jordy Delem’s arm in the penalty area, referee Dave Gantar pointed to the spot, and Gil — after a spirited discussion with second-half sub Cristian Penilla — buried it to the left to pull level again. Both goalkeepers then made incredible saves in second-half stoppage time to keep it even as Gantar blew for full time.
