HEADLINES

Revs with three straight wins, 11th straight without a loss: There’s some good news and some not-so-good news following this one. The good news first: Thanks to its 4-1 win over Orlando City, New England’s favorite soccer sons pulled level with the legendary 2005 side, marking its 11th consecutive match without a defeat dating back to May 8. Saturday’s win was also New England's third consecutive win, the first time the Revs have pulled that feat off since September 2016. The Revolution are also now 4-0-1 against Orlando here at Gillette. OK, and the not-so-good news: the win did not help their place in the Eastern Conference table, as the two teams ahead of them entering the weekend — New York City FC and Montreal — both scored victories to stay ahead of the Revs; Montreal and the Revs are level on points, but L'Impact are ahead via the wins tiebreaker.

Penilla scores fourth of the year to double the advantage, Gil peno makes it 3-0: With twilight settling over Route 1 and the second half starting, the Revolution made it a 2-nil scoreline just as the final bars of Joker and the Thief faded into nothingness. With Brandon Bye over on the far touchline and with Orlando City goalkeeper Brian Rowe shaded toward the far post, Bye crossed into the box, and Cristian Penilla simply tapped in an easy roller to give the Revs a 2-0 lead. Then at the hour mark, Jhegson Mendez was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area, and Carles Gil buried his eighth goal of the season from the spot.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

“It was okay. There was inconsistencies in both halves for us, but it was nice to get the three points. This was an important three points for us because we’ve got some difficult games ahead of us, and certainly next weekend, we’re playing the best team in the league. It’s really going to be challenging.”
