Live Coverage: Red Sox 10, Yankees 5 taken at BSJ Headquarters (Red Sox)

For the second straight night, the Red Sox jumped on the Yankees early and kept adding on, cruising to a 10-3 win behind three homers from Mookie Betts.

Betts homered in each of his first three at-bats and doubled in his fourth before finally being retired on a groundout in the eighth in his final plate appearance of the night. He finished with 14 total bases.

Andrew Cashner earned his first win with the Sox, holding the Yankees to three runs over 6.2 innings.

Rafael Devers added three hits of his own and J.D. Martinez had a two-run homer and a run-scoring triple.

WHO: Red Sox (57-47) vs. New York Yankees (66-36)
WHEN: 7:10 p.m.
WHERE: Fenway Park
SERIES TO DATE: Boston 1-0
SEASON SERIES TO DATE: Boston 6-2
STARTING PITCHERS: RHP Andrew Cashner (9-5, 4.19) vs. LHP James Paxton (5-5, 4.20)

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

9:18   Tiring a bit at the end, Cashner gives up two runs and a 400-foot double to Judge, then leaves to a standing ovation.

9:06   Booming run-scoring double to straightaway center for Devers, who has two doubles and a single, yet, understandably, has been totally overshadowed.

8:54   Three straight two-out singles and the Yankees spoil Cashner's shutout bid.

8:30   Weird line for Paxton, who is done after 4 IP: struck out nine, walked none. Of the nine hits he gave up, four left the ballpark and eight of the nine came from the top four spots in the Red Sox lineup.

8:24   That's three for Betts....and we're in the fourth inning. This time, he hits another one over everything to left, but with a man on.

8:01   Aaron Judge ran a long way for that toward the RF wall, got a glove on it....then dropped it. Run-scoring triple for Martinez.

7:56   Second homer of the night for Betts on a fat four-seamer up in the zone.

7:44  After two homers in the first four batters, the Red Sox suddenly can't make contact with James Paxton, with five straight strikeouts over two innings.

7:28  Two-run shot over everything for Martinez, and the Sox again jump out a big lead in the first. They've scored 10 runs in the last two nights in the first.

7:22  Leadoff homer for Mookie Betts, who runs the count full, hits one over everything in left. That's his 16th homer of the season and, remarkably, the first leadoff homer for a member of the Red Sox in 2019.
