FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots are on the field with the first official practice of 2019.
Overflow crowd here behind Gillette.
We'll bring you some quick-hit highlights over the course of practice. Of course, we'll be back later with our trademark in-depth practice report.
Observations:
- It's amazing how much Dont'a Hightower has transformed his body. Lining up as the strongside linebacker in drills, he easily stayed with the tight ends. Of course, Chronic knee issues mean you have to slim down and keep the wear-and-tear off.
- Patrick Chung is in a red jersey with a brace on his left shoulder.
- One area where I think Damien Harris might have an edge on Sony Michel ... he's a little quicker in a short area, like out of the backfield against a linebacker.
- Isaiah Wynn is the starting LT.
- Wynn took a seat in most of team stuff and Dan Skipper was the LT.
- Jakobi Meyers had a couple sensational catches.
- As usual, a low-key start as far as intensity. Lot of work on running game. Some low red zone stuff. The offense has struggled in everything but 2 on 2s between WRs and CBs.
- Practice is over. No David Andrews. Wynn continued to sit during competitive drills. Thuney and Skipper handled LT.
- Lot of 2 RBs in red zone.
